THOMASTOWN – “We have such a wonderful selection of small local businesses that make our communities vibrant,” said State Representative Denise Andrews (D-Thomastown). “It is the public’s support, particularly during the holiday season, but throughout the year that makes a difference. Gift certificates, memberships, and products from local businesses are great gifts for family, friends and colleagues that can help introduce new customers to these businesses. If we want our main streets to have interesting shops and restaurants, there is so much we can do, but actively choosing to buy local is what will make the positive difference we want to see in our communities. I’d encourage everyone to share your favorites places with friends or family, and help to create a buzz of support for all our local businesses.”

“If I was pressed to name some of my historically favorite local places from around the Second Franklin District,” continued Andrews, “I’d say Bruce’s Browser has outstanding service. Their bumper sticker collection is a great stocking stuffer idea and they can order just about any book you desire. When I’m in Belchertown, I always try to stop into Kristina’s Kafe & Bakery on the Common for great coffee and homemade Danish. They serve a hearty breakfast too! Freight House Antiques in Erving bakes some of the best brownies in the district and is a wonderful shopping opportunity for a unique or timeless gift. Wagon Wheel-Restaurant in Gill is a cozy stopping-off place for shoppers traveling to Greenfield. They have delicious housemade ice cream and an eclectic menu. Red Apple Farm in Phillipston has so many great sweets and apple inspired offerings. Outstanding customer service and strong work ethic is something they are sharing with the many young people that work there.

“I love New Salem Preserves. Perhaps the tastiest cider in New England and breathtaking views of the Quabbin. Trailhead and Millers River Café, together promote outdoor adventure, fun products and the friendly town atmosphere. At the Petersham Art Center you can find amazing arts and handmade crafts, as well as some very interesting workshops. Pete & Henry’s Restaurant is a tradition for many families, serving up amazing food, great service, and atmosphere for generations. The Kitchen Garden in Templeton is, in my opinion, the best bakery in the district and a special shopping experience. At the end of your shopping day, the Deja Brew Pub and the Wendell Country Store is a nice place to relax by the fire. They feature some great local performing artists and tasty food!”
